"The 40 acre farm next to the Dallas Crown horse slaughter plant in Kaufman, TX has been in my family for 150 years."

A lady
with a mission
Determined,
straight-forward and to the point.
That was Mary Nash. Her devotion was
focused on ending horse slaughter.
In her fight, this lady made many
enemies but even more friends. Those
who knew her, either personally or
through cyberspace, were not only
touched by her absolute resolve but
also inspired, educated and forever
changed. She was an icon for
standing up for what you believe in.
Her 'Horsemeat' website became
the bible for everyone involved
in fighting horse slaughter. Hours of dedicated work
should not be lost. She asked us to
continue her dedicated website and
in Honor of Mary, we will. Pages
originally authored by her will be
noted with Mary Nash on the bottom.
Her mission continues. |
Close the slaughterhouses
It was her absolute resolve and would have been her dream come true to
see the "American Horse Slaughter Prevention
Act" being passed by Congress. In her
lifetime, it was
not its time yet. However, in June of 2005,
shortly before her passing away, she got to
see the House of Representatives of the
United States of America bring the horse
slaughter issue to the floor. In a
blasting victory they passed
an amendment helping to protect horses from
slaughter passing 249-159. It made her so
happy.
Stand up for what you believe in
Jerry Finch from LSER/Habitat for
Horses: "I well remember her saying,
when she visited the ranch, 'Don’t
go tippy-toe around. If you’re going
to say something, say it out loud!
Make people hear it!' She wasn’t
talking about my mumbling. She was
talking about the slaughter issue."
She never held back or sugarcoated the
issue. In her
correspondence, Mary was
always direct and pushed several
pro-slaughter folks into the corner by
putting them on the spot. It was as if she
knew somewhere deep inside that there wasn't
much time for her to make a point. She was
so involved that every day counted. We will
miss her terribly, this outspoken and yet
lovely lady. The fight continues until the last horse
is safe.
We will stand up, in the Honor of
Mary.
Jerry Finch: "That’s what she was saying at
the ranch – stand up for what you believe.
This picture was taken back in the 70’s. I
understand she had the same attitude back
then – full of fire and life."
