Horsemeat Plant Dallas Crown has to shut down

Thursday night, the city officials of Kaufman, TX told Dallas Crown they have until September 30 to shut down for good. The citizen's attorney Don Feare and Waldo's attorney Bruce Monning argued for each side, but the horse meat plant lost.

Attorney Don Feare

Bruce Monning for Waldo

Waldo is the owner of the property on which Dallas Crown resides. The French owner of Waldo, Dallas Crown and Chevideco was there as well as Calabria, an attorney representing Dallas Crown. Bruce Monning was hired for Waldo in January, four hours before the last hearing. Until then he had only heard about the case in the news.

It is to be expected that the horsemeat plant will try to find some other way to remain open as they have in the past. They have a federal lawsuit against the State of Texas, which the District Attorney from Tarrant County appealed. The horsemeat plants (there are three in the U.S.) also currently have a petition with the USDA to work around a recently passed amendment which prohibits the USDA to pay for inspectors at the plants.

The ban should have gone into effect March 10th, but the slaughter continues under questionable circumstances. There is also a federal bill in the House and Senate to ban horse slaughter for good nationwide. The odds are against the horsemeat plants and another major step was taken against one of the plants by a small town in Texas last night; because the citizens want to get rid of the horsemeat plant.
