2007 was successful on the state level - The federal level needs action
In 2006, we passed the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act HR 503 in the House. It didn't make it in the Senate, even though it looked good. There is a new HR 503 for 2007/2008 and it must be passed! Otherwise, horses continue to be shipped to slaughter in Mexico and Canada.

Senate Bill S.311
House Bill HR503

2007 was strong and successful for the horses and shut down all remaining slaughterhouses in the U.S. The voice calling for an end to horse slaughter is as loud as never before:

The Texas Law from 1949 banning the sale of horse meat was upheld by the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

An effort to overturn the Texas law by introducing new bills in Texas failed in May.

The Governor of Illinois signed a new law banning horse slaughter in May.

Illinois Judge upholds ban on horse slaughter constitutional in July.

There is still the AHSPA which needs to be passed and 2008 is the year to do it! Contact your House Representative and State Senator to sign on to the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, HR 503 and S. 311.
